The Securing our Future Budget Allocator allows you to:
• review areas of discretionary spending from Council’s general fund
• choose priority areas in which you want services maintained or improved
• identify areas in which you are willing to see a decrease, and
• understand the relationship between the services and assets you value, how much they cost, and a potential rate increase.
This tool relates directly to spending on services and assets funded by rates. Currently, Council’s operating costs exceed our operating income, so if you choose to increase spending, the Budget Allocator will indicate the need for an increase in rates, and an estimate will be shown.
If you choose to maintain current spending levels, an estimate of the rate increase figure will still be shown. This represents the increase required to overcome the current operating deficit.
Please note this is a conceptual tool, and only one of the community engagement activities Council is conducting as part of Securing our Future.
Lake Macquarie Council wants to find out what you value most so we can find the right mix of assets and service delivery while maintaining financial sustainability.
How to use the Allocator:
STEP 1: Use the Budget Allocator to select your preferred budget and service delivery level from each of the key Council budget areas listed below.
STEP 2: Consider the impact of your budget selection by clicking on the blue information icon next to each budget item.
STEP 3: You can leave comments about why you selected a particular budget level or item by clicking on the grey comment icon at the right of your selected budget level.
STEP 4: Select the service level and special projects you want included in Council’s budget, but keep an eye on the overall budget. The green ‘Your Spend’ window to your right represents the amount of funds Council would need to budget for, based on the levels of service or items you choose.
